The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants (PG)
When circumstances force four best friends to spend their first summer apart, they decide to go on a final shopping spree together. The girls buy a pair of magical jeans which, despite their differing shapes and sizes, fits each of them perfectly. They decide to use the jeans as a means of keeping in touch over their months apart, with each girl wearing the magic pants for a week to see what luck they bring her before sending them on to the next. Coming of age adventure based on the novel of the same name by Ann Brashares.
Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (U)
Director Rodriguez's 7-year-old son apparently came up with the idea for this sorry 3-D concoction. Did I say 3-D? Cayden Boyd and Taylor Dooley are distinctly one-dimensional throughout this story of a 10-year-old outcast who, shunned by family and schoolmates alike, spends the summer holidays alone with two imaginary friends. Together they go on a mission to prove that 'dreams can become reality'.....
The Cave (12A)
On the face of it, the premise of 'The Cave' is similar to that of 'Spirit Trap': a group of people are trapped in a hostile environment where they are terrorised by menacing, evil beings. In this case, it's a bunch of divers supposedly caught in an underground cave system and battling with bloodthirsty, demonic creatures. The terrifying reality, though, is that of a cinema full of filmgoers being tormented by a laughably unscary horror movie. The film's publicity states that 'there are places man was never meant to go'.
The 40-Year-Old Virgin (Previews) (15)
The implausible premise of this nominal romantic comedy is that nice guy Andy Stitzman - still a virgin at the age of 40 - has finally fallen in love with a woman who - guess what? - doesn't want sex in the relationship. Hilarious idea, isn't it? But if it hasn't got you guffawing helplessly already, there's more: Andy and his partner's no-sex policy dismays his buddies, whose attempts to lure their friend out of a lifetime of chastity have all been to no avail. Do Andy and Trish remain just good friends? Does Trish relent? Does Andy finally, er, 'do it'?
The Business (Previews) (18)
If you want to make it your business to catch an action-packed gangster movie, you could do worse than 'The Business'. Set during the Thatcher years, it follows the fortunes of Frankie (Dennis Dyer), a fugitive from the high rises of South London who plans a new life on Spain's Costa del Sol. Armed with nothing but a tin stuffed full of cash he heads off to deliver the money to suave playboy and ex-con, Charlie (Tamer Hassan), little anticipating that he will soon be a member of Charlie's gang and up to his earlobes in the violent world of organized crime.
